I'm not one to generally make a big deal or even really acknowledge the start of a new year. However, I'm really looking forward to a fresh start. 2016 was a challenging year, and definitely gave me a run for my money. I started off the year feeling extremely stressed and overwhelmed, entered the summer months with a broken heart, and ended with some soul searching – by transplanting myself into a new state 1,000 miles away from my family and hometown.
That said, I am very much looking forward to making the most of it this coming year. I took a nice long walk throughout downtown today with one of my closest friends (check her out here!), and got to do some really great reflecting. It definitely helped that it was a beautiful 75 and sunny afternoon!
I'm not one to make a big list of "resolutions" for a new year, but I do have a few things I'd like to focus on. The biggest: maintaining a healthy dose of positivity, trust, and confidence. It's easy to let the negatives take over the many happy days, and I'm going to make a real effort this year to remember that when everything seems like it is falling apart – whether it be something as difficult as a broken heart or as simple as a crummy day at work – I will be ok.
That's where I'm at on this first Monday of 2017.
